Easy set-set up. I was done in 5 minutes. Happily it plays discs that I couldn’t play with my old Blu-Ray player. Totally satisfied customer!

Media server streaming, Ethernet wifi, bluray, youtube with cast support. One feed back is that the wifi is poor on it. Hardlined with Ethernet works great!

Canadian buyers beware

If you live outside the US, there are many apps that won't work. Amazon TV, for example, doesn't work. Very stupid, especially since Amazon is selling it. They're missing out on many potential Canadian subscribers. Fortunately, I mostly bought it for it's blu-ray capabilities, its Netflix and Youtube apps which work fine. There are many free apps, but a good number of them haven't offered new content in years. Some of them just don't work anymore. There are a few games but they are very basic and are pretty boring. Core functionalities ( CD/DVD/Bluray, USB, etc. ) all work however. The controller is good quality. Some people have complained about having issues with internet. I didn't get that, but, if you can do it, it's always better to connect it with an ethernet cable in order to get higher streaming speed. The Youtube and Netflix apps are the same as on my old PS3 console, which means they are very responsive and intuitive. Unfortunately, some other apps are very slow. It's true that there is no light to show if the device is on or off. You just have to remember to turn it off when you're done with it. Not big of a deal. I don't recommend buying this thing at full price to get your money's worth.

DESCRIPTION> The BD-J5700 player is not arched as the photo implies. Only the front face is curved inward, more so at the bottom edge. I assume the curve is intended to avoid the unit just being an ugly black box, but does not succeed. A more techy starkly simple black box would be more attractive. But the unit does a good job of playing DVDs and Blurays.> The only controls are an open/close button and an on/off button. The buttons are black plastic, unilluminated, and therefore virtually invisible. Fortunately, they are raised, not flush, so you can find the buttons by touch. But, you have to hold onto the very light BD-J5700 player to push a button, otherwise the whole unit moves.> The documentation implies that you can use the BD-J5700 to view content from your Miracast-enabled phone or tablet (such as a Galaxy Tab S2 9.7") on your TV, even if your TV is not Miracast-enabled. However, I have not tried that yet. One website claims that the BD-J5700 is not "certified" Miracast-compliant because it isn't always on.> Except as noted immediately below, Samsung TVs and players are well integrated. For example, with a DVD/Bluray disc from yesterday in your player, just press "play" on the player remote and both the player and the TV turn on and the disc is played. Similarly, when you take a disc from the player at the end of an evening, just press "off" and the tray closes, and both the player and TV turn off. Samsung players/TVs also work together so that using the correct TV automatic settings, you never have to adjust the picture for broadcast TV, DVD/Blurays, or Netflix---the picture is always perfect. That was not the case with a non-Samsung player I had earlier. Although I don't claim to be an expert, I strongly suggest matching your equipment. I.e., Samsung players with Samsung TVs, Panasonic players with Panasonic TVs, etc.CAUTION> When I installed the BD-J5700, it reset the settings of my UN55D8000 Samsung TV with the odd result that the broadcast TV and Netflix (via internet) shows looked okay (a little flat), but DVDs/Blurays were VERY flat, and VERY dark. Adjustments with the BD-J5700 remote control didn't help much. I had to reset the "Picture Mode" of the TV itself (using the UN55D8000 TV remote controller) back to "Dynamic". Then everything was back to normal glorious bright saturated color. These are both Samsung products specifically designed to work together---menu choices should have the same effect regardless of which controller you use to set them.BACKGROUND: My 3-year old BD-D5500 started having trouble playing Bluray disks ( even though it plays non-Bluray discs fine), so I purchased the BD-J5700 as a replacement.COMPARISION> The BD-J5700 has a Wi-Fi connection (which the BD-D5500 lacks). Using the BD-D5500 (which lacks Wi-Fi connectivity) , I enjoyed frustrating the DVD/Bluray movie distributors who tried to spy what I was viewing---even though the movies took a minute or so to load because they were unsuccessfully trying to connect to the Internet. Such DVDs/Blurays load faster with the BD-J5700, because it successfully connects to the Internet. The BD-D5500 (which lacks Wi-Fi connectivity) could not access "internet features" of some DVDs/Bluray discs--even though my Samsung UN55D8000 TV is connected to the Internet--but that didn't matter to me.> I prefer the Wi-Fi internet connection via my older Samsung UN55D8000 TV rather than the ugly Windows-8 like interface of the BD-J5700 which Samsung bizarrely calls "Opera". Thanks to Amazon for a speedy resolution of my Blu-ray player problems!My ancient Blu-ray player was fine with CDs and DVDs but was beginning to fumble with Blu-rays. Cleaning the read head became less and less effective. Time for an upgrade.Ordered the Sony BDPS3700 (see my 1-star review of that product). Opened the box on Tuesday, began several hours of fruitless installation efforts. Poor Wi-Fi connectivity (at 15' from access point!), inability to update firmware over the internet, erroneous error messages re firmware status, total inability to open/close disk drawer due to faulty Child Lock feature.Net: Many hours wasted, to no effect. Sent product back Tuesday afternoon. Ordered Samsung BD-J5700 the same afternoon.On Wednesday, received Samsung, attached cables, plugged it in. Setup screen popped up immediately. Entered Wi-Fi password. Done.One minor glitch --- my Samsung Blu-ray player and my Sharp TV apparently disagreed over use of the HDMI-CEC connection. After I turned off the Samsung, it would turn back on after a few minutes. Disabling the HDMI-CEC function on the Samsung (Anynet+) solved the problem. It is probably NOT a good idea to have HDMI-CEC as the system default, but the setting is easily changed, in any case. Personally, I have no interest in the HDMI-CEC function.Time will tell as to the reliability of the Samsung, but for the moment it is performing beautifully. Great picture, great sound.Happy Camper!

This dvd player works great! It's fast and reliable for playing DVDs as well as streaming. I say this as if it's some surprise. Well, in fact it is. I recently purchased the latest SONY dvd player from Amazon with disastrous results. The first unit arrived DOA and the second unit, while not DOA may as well have been. It would not play a dvd with our rebooting and crashing. Many times I had to power-cycle it just to get it to come back. Sony has fallen a long way. I had also tried the LG player and met with nearly identical results to the Sony. I was very pleasantly surprised when the Samsung came up and work as expected. I did have one strange problem with this unit: after the initial menus to connect to my wireless network, etc., it too would not play a dvd and when I went to stream, the screen would always go blank. Fearing the worse (that I had the equivalent of another Sony), I decided to power-cycle the device - I am glad I did. After that, the device has been flawless. I have no explanation for this other than the setup software leaves the unit in some crippled state and power-cycling clears it up.

Works just fine, but didn't come with a remote, and there aren't navigation buttons on the player itself, and it didn't respond to the navigation buttons on my TV remote. Had to order a $10 replacement remote which I'm hoping will fix the issue, but it at least has been playing my movies well (as long as the only button I need is pause and play 🙄)
