I’ve been using this indoor starter kit for about 7 weeks now, and the results are quite impressive. Instead of a cheap plastic feel, the ten white pots look clean on my windowsill. The nutritional soil provided a solid foundation; after a month and a half, the basil and mint are incredibly fragrant and vibrant. While the cilantro took a bit longer to sprout than the thyme, everything is now fresh and flavorful. It’s a practical, rewarding set.

I start my seedlings in a liquid growing system and then transplant them into these small pots. The drainage tray design prevents root rot from overwatering. These are perfect pots for indoor growing.

This indoor herb garden starter kit is a good little project for folks who’ve never done much gardening or who want an indoor herb garden for cooking with. I started up the set with my preschooler, which was messy, but very fun for her. It came with everything we needed: multiple herb seed varieties, soil discs, small pots, planting tools and labels. Kiddo had a good time putting stickers all over the pots of course. If I’d been thinking ahead more I would’ve let her paint them in advance, I think they’re a good material to paint with basic craft paints.The seeds have germinated well even with over-water by the 4 year old. We do a lot of cooking so it’s nice to have fresh herbs on hand. The parsley has been coming up particularly fast, which is great.As a Christmas gift or first-time gardening project, this is a nice balance between easy, hands-on, and a little bit of reward. I wouldn’t call it exceptional, but it’s a great little starter kit.
