no bueno.. this can actually kill your hdd.. constantly loosing connection .. i cant tell if its dead or not causing to hit the power switch ..etc.. buy better

This device only works with SATA drives, not IDE/PATA drives. It also only works with 2.5" and 3.5" SATA HDD/SSD. I tested it with two different HGST 6TB drives. It was a bit finicky, but it generally worked. Sometimes it would not recognize my drive, but usually it did. It also enabled me to convert a drive from a RAID drive to a standard Windows drive, which is nice. My drives did get very warm while in this dock, but not actually what I would consider hot. None of them stayed in the dock for a prolonged amount of time, however. It did allow me to read and write to a couple of different internal drives that were lying around.I tried to clone a drive, but the last light on the front lit up white and according to Amazon AI, that's an error indicator. It could be that1) the SATA connection is loose,2) the drive is failing,3) the device is getting insufficient power, or4) it's a "docking station malfunction."I know the drive is fine and it's seated properly. Anything else would mean the device is just malfunctioning, as I am using the power cable that came with the device. I was unable to perform the clone operation.When I had two drives inserted, the original drive letter disappeared. Amazon AI says this is a known power limitation issue with budget dual-bay docking stations. When you insert two drives, Windows loses your drive letter because the 12V/2A power supply (24 watts) isn't sufficient to power two 3.5" drives simultaneously. When I remove the second drive, the drive letter reappears altogether. So you can't access your drive when two drives are inserted.I turned off the flashing RGB lights off using the little toggle switch in the rear. I don't feel like that has much of a place in a professional environment.POSUGEAR seems to have been around about 20 years, and are considered "mid-tier" by many, but it feels very light and cheap to me. At roughly $20, you're getting basic functionality and nothing more.This would probably not be my pick for this type of docking station, but it generally functioned (except for the clone ability). I'm going to rate this device a 3 out of 5. If you're willing to deal with how finicky it is, or maybe you just enjoy tech toys, this might be for you.

Review for: POSUGEAR RGB External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5/3.5 Inch HDD SSD USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Dock Up to 40TB Dual Bay, Support Offline Clone and UASP 12V Power Adapter Supply.This is junk. I didn't try the clone feature. I don't need to clone any drives. I got this to use two SATA hard drives as external drives. I first tried this plugged into a KVM switch so i could use the drives on my desktop or my notebook. It didn't work. I thought it might be because I was going through the KVM switch. So I connected it directly to my laptop and then desktop. It didn't work on either. I can get it to work with two 2.5" SATA SSD drives, but it won't work with the two 3.5" SATA hard drives I want to use. It will work with one 3.5" SATA hard drive or 1 3.5" and 1 2.5" on the KVM, laptop or desktop. I am guessing it does not have enough power to run two 3.5" rotating media drives. I am sending it back.

Worked great. I had another brand that broke. This one seems to be of better quality and I really like how I can use USB C and USB A.I'd buy this again for sure.
